Volkswagens 1.5 Liter I5 Engine For The 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle
Volkswagen’s New Beetle for 2010 powers a six speed Tiptronic automatic or manual transmission with a 150 horsepower engine. Both the coupe and the convertible versions of the Beetle are equipped with this 2.5 liter, five cylinder inline engine. This engine has an 82.5 mm bore and a 92.8 mph stroke and a 9.5 to 1 compression ratio. The maximum horsepower are delivered at 5,000 rpm and the maximum torque (170 foot pounds) is realized at 3,750 rpm. The Motonic sequential multi point fuel injection helps the car achieve maximum performance and fuel economy.
The New Beetle’s transverse-mounted engine is fabricated with a cast iron block and a steel, 6 bearing camshaft. The cylinder head is aluminum. Each cylinder has four valves with hydraulic lifters. This is a water cooled engine that has an electric PWM controlled radiator fan. The digitally controlled electronic ignition has two knock sensors to improve power.
Equipped with the manual transmission, the engine accelerates the car from 0 mph to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. With the automatic, the 0 60 time is 8.4 seconds. The vehicle’s top speed is an electronically limited 125 mph with either transmission. Running on regular unleaded gasoline, the fuel consumption of the New Beetle is 20 mph city and 28 mpg highway with the manual transmission and 20 mph city and 29 mph highway with the automatic.
The Volkswagen New Beetle has achieved an ultra low emission vehicle (ULEV II) rating, meaning that its advanced vapor recovery and evaporation systems are gentle to the environment, comforting environmentally conscious drivers. All of these combined features make this a truly environmentally friendly car.
