Porsche Fans Get Their Own Social Network
Since the early days of the internet, even before the world wide web, people were using interconnected computer networks to communicate. One of the earliest forms of network communication was called the “bulletin board” or BBS system. One user could leave a message on the “board” and others could reply to it. Thus the first online communities and groups were born.
Fast forward to the mid 90′s and the early years of the internet as we know it today. Bulletin Boards were still thriving in a new and more advanced form called the online forum. An online forum site was a cleaner more organized version of the bulletin board with categories, graphics, and a much improved interface. Forums made an ideal communication tool for online groups, clubs and people to gather and discuss whatever topic that forum site was dedicated to. Forums are still an incredible communication tool and are thriving all over the internet to this day.
Around the turn of this century a new type of online community started to emerge. This was dubbed the social network. Often incorporating the previous generation of forums along with other features such as user profiles, photo galleries, friend systems, and chat, the social network gathered many of the online communication tools found seperately online and combined them into one site.
Until recently social networks have been large and general targeting as many people online as they can and not focusing on any particular interest or population segment. Most special interest sites have remained forum sites.
Within the couple of years smaller more targeted social networks had emerged. Social networks for moms, pilots, golfers, and other special interests exist now.
Much of the automotive world has also seen their own social networks emerge. Honda fans and tuners have their social networks, as do many other brand loyalists.
Porsche loyalists are a large and loyal community and have several fan forum sites with thousands of members. Until yesterday though, they had no social network. Now a new Porsche fan social network has finally been released and the Porsche community has a new way to interact.
RennSpace.com is a new website with all the features expected of a modern social network.
