Porsche Cayman R: Take a deep breath

Porsche Cayman R

Nice driving report here with the Porsche Cayman R. Enjoy!

Nearly every Porsche has a Sport button, and the 2011 Cayman R is no different. It quickens the PDK gearbox’s shifts, tightens throttle response and allows a bit more slip. I should’ve paid more attention to those last two bits during our morning briefing.

On the rain- and occasionally hail-battered island roads of Mallorca, Spain, it took all of a quarter-inch of throttle travel to realize that the ultra-slippery tarmac partnered with the high-performance summer rubber were a match made in Hell. One minute, my co-driver (Motor Trend scribe and Autoblog alum Jonny Lieberman) was looking down at the route book; the next, he was staring at the sheer face of a rock wall. Whoops.

Bentley Mulsanne
Bentley has announced the price of the Bentley Mulsanne, $285.000.

So what do you get for $285,000? For starters, plenty of decisions. There are 114 paint colors to choose from, 21 carpet colors, 9 wood veneers and 24 leather hides. Naturally, custom colors are also available at a premium. Each Mulsanne will take nine weeks to build.

Bentley Mulsanne: Scooped in Leeds, England

Bentley Mulsanne
An eagle-eyed guy found this Bentley Mulsanne in Leeds.

The car was all taped up around the badges, door and bonnet shuts,’ said our reader. Let’s call him Alan.

‘I know the Mulsanne’s not out until later in the spring, so I wonder why it was in this out-of-the-way car park in Morley?’

This is the sports car!!

This is the sports car!!

There are other many also gaudy, convertible cars, that are cheaper and they permit to travel with more comfort.  Some of them they are the Mercy-Benz SLK or the Audi TTS Roadster.  Any of these they will fill the expectations of many conductors, even of those that enjoy the fast moderate style conduction.

The Boxster should not be bought by the circumstance of that their bodywork is convertible, and would be an error if is sought an especially comfortable car.  It is for those that give the maximum importance to a car impeccably designed with all that is needed to be fast in sinuous layout and for transmit their conductor a series of difficult sensations of find in other vehicles.  As sports, practically there is not another better one by less than 60,000 €.

Has an unmistakable but besides very functional bodywork for a daily use (among others things because maneuver well in city and because has two trunks) and a quality of outstanding execution.

Costs 51,700 €, with a motor of 2.9 l and 255 CV.  The Boxster S has 295 CV and slope 62,500 €.  Is a costly car just as comes from series, although agrees to be stopped in looking at its extensive list of options, where there are things as interesting as the automatic change PDK.  We recommend testing a Boxster with this automatic change before making a decision.

The mechanical disposition of the Boxster is relatively peculiar because has the motor placed between the rear axle and the seats.  Most of their competitors they have the motor in front of the interior.

Bentley Continental Supersports: How can a car that weighs so much go so fast so quickly?

Bentley Continental Supersports
Nice review here of the Bentley Continental Supersports.

This is the first modern Bentley I’ve ever been excited about. Part of the appeal of the Supersports we’re testing lies in the fact that virtually everything on the car is black, that the seats feature manual adjustments, and that the materials covering every inch of the interior are as soft and luxurious as it gets. The rest of the Supersports’ appeal is apparent as soon as you put even the smallest amount of pressure on the accelerator pedal.

Through some pretty standard engineering changes that include a lot of aluminum suspension components, antiroll bar changes, stiffer bushings, lower ride height, and lighter wheels and brakes, the Supersports feels far lighter than its 4939-pound curb weight suggests. Steering responses are excellent, and the ride is extremely firm, yet never harsh, over brittle pavement. It’s a good thing this massive coupe is so easy to control, because there’s an astonishing 621 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque available, and it pulls like the proverbial freight train at any speed.

Porsche Boxter Review

Porsche Boxter Review

Some say that the Boxster is for anyone who cannot afford a 9-11 yet still wants a Porsche, but the Boxster is worth every penny, if you have the money to spend. It’s beautifully crafted, and you get what you pay for with this one, the materials used are sumptuous and quality rich. It’s an expensive car, starting at £34,000, but it will make you stand out from the crowd in a cloud of elegance and sophistication. With a soft top designed for showing off, you will turn heads, but beware the avid burglar with a Stanley knife who wants to make off with your possessions.
It handles well at both high and low speeds, turns on the head of a pin and offers really powerful anti lock brakes. The engine is quiet, so there is no need to shout over the hum as you get to faster speeds. The steering wheel is adjustable for added comfort, and when the sun is shining, put the roof down! For ease, it goes down when stationary and in transit, up to speeds of 31mph, and goes up and down within 12 seconds, to protect you from the naturally changeable English weather. If the rain starts, you’ll be dry in no time!
Inside the car it’s really comfy, and there is plenty of room in the boot for you to store your luggage. The boot is split into two compartments for ease of separation, and is the roomiest for cars in this bracket.
The Boxster offers stability control, and comes complete with an alarm and deadlocks for added protection.
If you have the money to do so, then investing in the Boxster is a great idea. The value of the car depreciates very little over the years, and should you try to sell after three, you will still retain 70 percent of the value, which isn’t something to be sniffed at.
When driving your new Porsche, make sure that you have comprehensive Car Insurance Cheap policies are readily available online, and you can save time and money by doing it this way.

Vw Offers Eos Convertible

Vw Offers Eos Convertible

This year, VW offers the convertible Eos. The car gave superb attention to detail and to the structure. VW is proud of the fact that it has been able to fit a shorter, more upright windscreen, due to the car’s excellent rigidity.

The car is shake-free and with a refined VW muffler. As a result, the ride is supple unless you hit a deep pothole. The handling is taut and composed, and has good steering. Due to fine insulation, the VW is made a great cruiser.

The Golf GTI-sourced 2.0-litre turbo is one of the popular engine choices for Eos. It gives pace, effortless grunt and crisp. By using this engine, the gearshift action is good too.

Volkswagen partly patterned Eos’ styling from the Golf and the Jetta. A huge difference is that the Eos has a unique design of headlights. However, it borrowed the chrome grille from the Jetta. As a result, Eos does not look out of place alongside Audi’s desirable A4 Cabriolet, considering it shares a platform with the humble hatch, albeit lengthened, with a wider track, and redeveloped with components including Passat rear suspension.

As the first-ever VW folding hard-top, Eos has a five-piece folding roof and has been dubbed by VW a ‘CSC’, which stands for “coupe sunroof convertible”. That is basically because the front glass section of the amazing roof can be slid back to open up the elements, though there is some cabin bluster. The car is offered with a choice of four petrol engines and one diesel, plus two trims – standard or Sport.

The Eos competes with the Vauxhall Astra TwinTop, Ford Focus CC, Volvo C70, Renault Megane CC and the Peugeot 307 CC.

The roof takes 25 seconds to fold away. It is operated by a chrome lever behind the handbrake. Sacrificing some luggage space is a big “NO”. It drops from 380 liters to 205 liters. Also, there’s no facility to raise the roof within the boot when folded, to aid luggage access. The roof, however, which contains 470 components, is amazingly well packaged, allows a lot of light to get in the car and is fast to rise when rain clouds gather.

Found in the interior are seats for four, with spacious knee clearance for those in the back, and an appealing cabin design. It is broadly Golf based, but a few individual touches set it apart. Seats and driving position are great too. Even better, running costs will be low; all variants are economical, inexpensive to service whether you choose fixed or variable intervals and retain a high proportion of their list price. The VW is, however, notably more expensive than key competitors, and the overall package is spoilt slightly by a mean one-year breakdown recovery deal.

Prestige Car Hire Allows You to Own Your Dream Car…for a Few Days

Prestige Car Hire Allows You to Own Your Dream Car…for a Few Days

Many of us have a dream car, a car that we think “one day, I’ll own that”. Some people have not only one dream car but an entire list of varying sports cars that we’d love to drive down an open road. For those of us who win the lottery this fantasy may become a reality but for the majority of us we’ll be saving money well into our retirement before we can afford the super car of our dreams.

There are however, a number of firms who serve only to fulfil these dreams and let us taste what it’d be like to own these cars and offer them on a hire basis. There are firms who have bought a whole fleet of Ferraris or a load of Lamborghinis and they hire them out to any (responsible) drivers who want to try them.

These vehicles are often loaned for special events like weddings or birthdays but there’s every chance that a businessman may hire one when travelling to a client to give off a distinct impression that he’s a big shot. As long as you aren’t going to be going nuts and speeding across the highways and byways then you should be able to rent one of these for a day or two.

The big news though is that many of these cars can be hired at any big name <a onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelmerge/travelsearch.aspx?package=6″>Car Hire</a> company; cars like the Ferrari F430 Spider and the Bentley Continental GT are classed as “prestige” class in the <a onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelmerge/travelsearch.aspx?package=6″>Car rental</a> world. Some firms will only ask you for the class of vehicle that you want to hire and not allow you to be make and model specific.

It’s not just in this country you can splash out on hiring a truly special car but many companies will allow you to book your <a onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelmerge/travelsearch.aspx?package=6″>holiday Car Hire</a> in advance and you can make your holiday that extra bit special and high class. Imagine driving a Ferrari in Los Angeles, whilst it may not be too outlandish for the residents of Rodeo drive at least you’ll be able to fit in with the masses over there. Hiring a stylish Bentley for cruising the South of France will allow you to impress the European crowd too, so if you’re going on holiday and would like something extra special for yourself or a loved one try looking into prestige car hire if you can spare the extra cost.
