Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Have a look!
AMG’s new baby – the M157 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 – is finding a home in nearly every new Mercedes product, and when fitted to the CLS63 the blown mill is good for 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque… in standard form. Option up for the AMG Performance Package and Merc’s in-house tuner turns up the boost from 14.5 to 18.8 psi and output rises to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft of twist. Equipped with AMG’s seven-gear “Speedshift” MCT automatic tranny, the CLS63 takes an estimated 4.4 seconds to run from 0-60 in standard guise and 4.3 seconds with the AMG pack. Similarly, top speed also rises from 155 to 186 mph with the performance upgrade. And if you care, both variants clock in at 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.

Things get weird if car companies release their own spy shots. Anyhow, enjoy these official spy shots of the Magic Sky Control roof of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK.
In the middle of a rocky, scarcely frequented parking area, they have positioned three prototypes, one of which is the SLK, due to celebrate its world premiere next year. The next generation of the successful roadster is fitted with a glass roof which Mercedes-Benz will be offering – the world’s first automotive manufacturer to do so – as an optional extra in the new SLK. Known as the MAGIC SKY CONTROL panoramic vario-roof, this technical marvel boasts a unique level of versatility, as its name suggests: when open, it creates an intense feeling of being in touch with nature which is typical of a roadster, and being transparent it still provides an open-air feeling even in poorer weather. Yet it also features another unusual highlight: the transparent glass roof can be darkened on demand in a matter of seconds. As such, by optionally affording shade and a unique ambience, it helps to ensure a pleasant wellness atmosphere in the interior.

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK will add significant improvements in terms of safety.
Early next year, Mercedes-Benz will launch the all-new 2012 SLK-Class. The agile sports car will feature a bold, new design, exceptionally high levels of comfort, as well as plenty of open-air driving pleasure. At the same time, it will also set new safety standards for convertible sports cars. The third generation of this trend setting roadster will make use of a whole host of the latest assistance systems to support the driver, including the drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST, developed by Mercedes-Benz and fitted as standard equipment; available occupant protection system PRE-SAFE®, which is unique in the world; and the PRE-SAFE® Brake, which can apply the brakes autonomously in the event of an impending front-end collision. With the 2012 SLK-Class, Mercedes-Benz continues to set new standards of automotive safety.
The best or nothing – the safety experts at Mercedes-Benz have long adopted this motto, coined by Gottlieb Daimler, as their guiding principle. Far from chasing ratings targets, they work intensively on attaining a level of safety which far exceeds the standards stipulated by the world’s legislators. The most important component of their work is not in the laboratory or crash test facility, but real-world accident research. The result of this study is Real Life Safety, a concept which is based on research into thousands of accidents. Using this evidence, Mercedes-Benz engineers have created or refined most of today’s assistance systems which effectively support drivers and have been adopted by many of the company’s competitors.

We found new spy shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class testing new cabin technology. Have a look!
What we’re seeing in these spy shots is still a mule, just like the last time, and it seems Mercedes is doing some heavy technology testing on this one since the driver is being accompanied by a robot. We know Mercedes-Benz likes to stuff its cars with technology but is this where they’re headed – I Robot driving companions?
The dummy in the passenger seat has “ears” so maybe they’re testing sounds or audio systems.

Here’s the first preview of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Have a look!

Mercedes-Benz has released the very first official photos of the Mercedes-Benz SLK. Teasing …
The Magic Sky Control roof takes advantage of a new innovative technology that allows the roof to be either transparent or darkened. Whether in cold, rainy or just overcast weather, the transparent option gives passengers and drivers an open air experience while remaining shielded from the elements. The dark state helps prevent the interior from being overheated and shields the occupents from intense sunlight.
The Magic Sky Control is set to be an option on the new SLK for just under 2,000 Euro additional. Advantages of the roof include: the glass more effectively shields solar radiation over conventional heat-resistant glass or shutters., when driving becomes uncomfortable with the roof open because of excessive heat, the transparent roof would remain comfortable and still give the open air feeling driver and passenger.

We have all the details for you about the next-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
The new Mercedes B-class, the first Benz to be powered by Renault petrol engines, is undergoing testing in Germany ahead of its launch at next year’s Frankfurt show.
These hand-built prototypes show for the first time the evolutionary dimensions and proportions of the next B-class, one of five key models based on an all-new front-drive platform, dubbed MFA. The five-seat MPV will be the first model off the MFA, followed in 2012 by the new A-class, and then a junior SUV and a small saloon.

Mercedes-Benz is doing the “unthinkable” and developing a 4-cylinder variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class!
At the Paris Auto Show last week, Zetsche announced that the Mercedes S-class luxury sedan will be sold with a four-cylinder engine for the first time in the brand’s 60 year history.
“Some might call this sacrilege – we call it progress,” Zetsche told reporters at the press presentation of the S class. “We want to be efficiency world champions … and we will be.”
Zetsche’s statement comes after BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer said that he plans to cut the company’s three-brand fleet CO2 emissions by at least 25% by 2020. Fuel-efficiency features are abound in late model European cars, as European regulations set to take effect in 2012 will require higher levels of efficiency.

Nice first drive report here with the Mercedes-Benz CL550.
“Do you know that there are four versions of this car that are more powerful than this one?” we said aloud when we first rammed our foot to the floorboard in the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550.
“That’s just…stupid!” We were ostensibly talking to our co-driver. But he only responded with the occasional, “Meh.”
But this really was a pretty remarkable thing. Such is the torque produced by the new twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 that this monument to elegant touring, this two-and-a-quarter-ton luxury coupe, lunges forward like, well, something that lunges forward quite aggressively. Our eyebrows stayed raised for some time after each big, dumb kick of the right pedal.
And this was the poor man’s CL — the one with a piddling 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. And at a starting price of $114,025, you needn’t be obscenely wealthy to get yourself a 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550. Mere filthy richness will suffice, sir.

Street word has it that Mercedes-Benz is considering to bring natural gas cars to the US.
Mercedes will launch a CNG version of its E-Class sedan in Germany just in time for Christmas this year. Though the automaker has no plans to export the CNG-powered sedan to the U.S., Sascha Simon, department manager of advanced product planning for Mercedes-Benz, told Green Car Advisor that the option to export definitely exists. Simon said that the automaker is keeping a keen eye on the U.S. and, if a market for CNG vehicles develops, both the B-Class and E-Class could accommodate natural gas setups without a redesign. Look for both vehicles to make the trip across the Atlantic if demand, well, demands it.

Interesting first drive review here of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS550.
Over the road, the CLS550 provides something similar to the E550 experience—which is to say, biased toward luxury rather than sport. The engine sounds good, but it’s very muted, and under full throttle the V-8 growl fades beneath a blanket of turbo whoosh. The power delivery is sensational, though, with no perceptible turbo lag.
The air suspension and continuously variable damping combine for a plush highway ride. Ultimately, however, it lacks a convincing degree of athleticism: Though precise and linear, the new electric power steering provides far more feedback than does the chassis, which is pretty inert.
The CLS is still an expressive machine, and it remains a stylish alternative to an E550 sedan. We just wish it had a little more fire. Perhaps the upcoming CLS63 AMG will satisfy that desire.
