Luxurious Tag Heuer Phone To Be The Focus-Myluxphone

Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer, part of French luxury goods group LVMH, said on Monday it had licensed its name to French customized design manufacturer Mode labs  for a series of luxury mobile phones. The launch of the first TAG Heuer mobile phone was foreseen for the second half of 2008. Luxury goods companies, which realized long ago their brands, could be extended to more than clothes and bags, have been rushing to embrace the mobile this year.

Prada and Armani have both recently launched phones made by, respectively, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics.

TAG CEO Christophe Babin said in the statement the launch of its eyewear line in 2002 convinced it of the wider potential of the brand, popularized in its adverts by Formula 1 drivers like Kimi Raikkonen, actor Brad Pitt and golfer Tiger Woods.

“The success of this line, already market leader in luxury eyewear, confirmed for us the potential of TAG Heuer as a brand for contemporary, technological and timeless products…such as luxury mobile phones,” he said.

TAG Heuer on Monday announced the release of a limited-edition cell phone TAG Heuer Meridiist, the design of which was inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago supercar. Only 1963 examples of the Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini cell phone will be made worldwide to signify the founding year of Lamborghini cars. The phone is made of stainless steel coated in black titanium carbide and sports the same signature as the one found on the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640′s V12 engine block.

The features are not as advanced as some other handsets, and include a two-megapixel camera, media player functionality and Bluetooth. The 1.9-inch display is covered by a 60.5-carat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal panel, however. The phone’s battery is said to last for seven hours of talk time and 28 days of standby power.
